Description
General aspect and origins - Adenium obesum is also known as the desert rose. It is a succulent shrub that can be up to 5 ft (1,50 m) tall, with a caudex. (I.e. a fleshy trunk.) It belong to the Apocynaceae familly (like the oleander) and is native to eastern Africa. It has both ornamental trunks and flowers.
Leaves - This plant has a caudex and a glossy and decidious foliage.
Flowers - In order to bloom, this plant needs a partial shade or, better, a full sun location. Flowers are about 2 in (5 cm) wide. They are pink, red-pink and white.Culture
Note - Beware of its sap. Like most plants from the Apocynaceae familly, Adenium obsesum has toxic parts.
Soil - Adenium obesum needs a well-drained soil, not necessarily fertile. It can withstand droughts. It should be regularly watered in summer, but very sparsely in winter.Propagation
This plant is propagated by seeds or cuttings.
